What is Hunter Women’s Centre?

Hunter Women’s Centre is a non-profit community organisation dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of women in the Hunter region. We provide a range of services including counselling, health education, support groups, and advocacy.

What services does Hunter Women’s Centre offer?

The Centre provides a range of services, including:

  • Counselling: Client-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed support for women.
  • Groups and Workshops: Therapeutic and support groups, as well as workshops focused on various aspects of women’s health and well-being.
  • Information and Referral: Assistance in accessing other services and resources.

These services are designed to improve the health and well-being of women in the Hunter region, particularly those who are marginalised or disadvantaged.

Who can access your services?

Our services are available to all women aged 13 and over in the Hunter region. Some programs may have specific eligibility criteria, which will be outlined in the service description.

The Centre prioritises services for women who are:

  • Marginalised or experiencing disadvantage.
  • Having difficulty accessing services elsewhere.

This includes women who have experienced domestic, family, or sexual violence, as well as those dealing with emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss or relationship challenges.

Do I need a referral to use your services?

No referral is required for our services. You can contact us directly to make an appointment or enquire about our programs.

Are your services confidential?

Yes. All services provided are strictly confidential. Your privacy is respected and protected in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.

Is there a cost for services?

Our services are free or low-cost, thanks to Hunter New England Health funding. Fees, if any, will be discussed with you beforehand and no one is turned away due to financial hardship.

What types of counselling do you offer?

We offer individual counselling for a range of issues including domestic and family violence, mental health, grief and loss, relationships, trauma, and self-esteem. Counselling is provided by qualified professionals in a safe, supportive environment.

Do you offer support for women experiencing domestic or family violence?

Yes. We provide specialised support, including counselling, safety planning, referrals to legal and housing services, and emotional support. All services are provided with sensitivity and confidentiality.

What group programs do you run?

We offer a variety of group programs, including support groups, educational workshops, self-care and wellness programs. Current programs can be found on our website or by contacting us directly.

Hunter Women’s Centre is located 60 Industrial Drive Mayfield. We are easily accessible by public transport and have parking available on-site or nearby.

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
